This map focuses on the capital city of British New Guinea, Port Moresby, and the road heading north-east from the city to the Laloki River. Along the road, there are descriptions of the terrain (‘Open flat fairly grasses timbered with bastard Gum’).

Produced by the Intelligence Branch of the British War Office, this map shows Dutch colonial territories in maritime Southeast Asia, and their political and military divisions in Java and Madura. British and Spanish territories are also marked.

From August Petermann's ‘Geographische Mittheilungen’, this map of New Guinea and neighbouring islands is marked with a maritime route from the western tip of New Guinea that is labelled ‘from Batavia to Hong Kong in 35 days’ and dated 1846.
