There are over 100 sheets of this very large-scale (1:20,000) topographic map of the regency of Besoeki, Java. Cities and villages, roads, railways and rivers, crops and many more features are all shown in great detail.

This map shows Java and Madura divided into regencies which are then subdivided into districts. Each district is coloured to represent land ownership (‘Communaal bezit [Communal property]’) as recorded in 1895.

The Kapoewas (Kapuas) and Melawi rivers converge on this map of the town of Sintang, Borneo. The town lines the river banks, and is surrounded by fields, forest and marshland. Arrows on the rivers mark the direction of their flow.

This map of the Dutch East Indies is spread over eight sheets, with a hand-drawn cover sheet showing the whole area. There are numerous inset maps of islands, bays, cities etc. Two of the inset maps have a replacement map pasted over them.

The legend and written notes on this plan of Batavia (Jakarta) provide much detailed information about the important port city in the early 18th century. It is also beautifully decorated with paintings of the city, local people, animals and ships.
