Copy-specific Notes

Open note in new window Notes for Bodleian Library: D40:5 (4) Note: Part of the exhibition "Volcanoes" (February - May 2017) - Note: Caption: The Sunda Straits were a major sea-trading route. After the eruption, surveyors from the regional government quickly updated their maps to show the remnants of Krakatoa. The northern parts of Krakatoa were gone, replaced by a flooded crater more than 300 metres deep. To the north, Verlaten Island was now much larger, buried in a deep blanket of rock, pumice and ash from the eruption. - Provenance note: Donation.
